Pick up mining and go mine copper/iron ore, then turn them into bars. On my server, you can make 4-10g per stack of low-lvl bars.
The best way to earn legal WoW gold is to find locations in Azeroth where you can collect rare but expensive materials quickly！
Dude-this guy was on my server for the longest time, and he always had the best of everything, all the newest weapons, armor, etc. Never seemed to run out of money, participated in raids more for the company than actually needing to.
I got to know him a bit, and proceeded to hound the guy for his methods for getting so much gold, until he finally told me to meet him on private chat. Turns out he had a couple of crazy simple secrets for getting gold. He told me that people were kind of stupid not to do this early on in the game.
I actually had to trade everything I got from like 4 or 5 raids for this info. In the end, he gave it back, and told me he just wanted to see how serious I was. Which I thought was freaking cool. And to top it off, the methods work like crazy. Never would have thought of it before
. In fact, my friend actually gets threats from gold sellers, because you really never need to buy gold again once you know this stuff.

Learn to trade in the Auction House. If you can buy stacks of Bronze for 2G and sell them for 3G you’ll get wealthy quite quickly. Other metals, skins and other ingredients are always in demand so just watch to see what’s selling. Buy when there’s lots of sellers. Sell when there’s fewer. A few other people mentioned gathering professions. That’s right on the money for a character who is level 40 or lower.
The main gathering professions are:
- Skinning
- Mining
- Herbalism
Of those 2, I think Skinning is easiest (you don’t have to search as hard, you just have to kill beasts), but Mining and Herbalism cause you to make more money per stack of materials that you collect.
It should also be noted that Mining and Herbalism are used for more professions.
Skinning is mostly just for Leatherworking.
Mining is for Blacksmiths and Engineers.
Herbalism is for Alchemists and Inscriptions.
It’s up to you which ones to pick. All 3 are good money makers.
You can always change professions later, at the max character level. In fact, some people do this on purpose, as it’s easier to level a crafting profession at level 80 than it is to do it as you level up.
Okay, well, you actually have several different methods available at your disposal.
First, as many others have said, gathering professions. I strongly recommend leveling with skinning and mining as your professions. Once you hit 80 you can definitely pick up some different ones. If you are a miner go mine for copper and tin ore in an area that has both in large quantities. Barrens is good for this as Horde, Dun Murough for Alliance. The reason you go here is because of a high silver drop rate. Silver veins are going to proc between 1 and 4 silver ore which are worth up to 5 gold per on many servers.
Second, wool wool wool. Wool cloth drops from mobs in their high teens and early 20s. Farm it like crazy. It’s difficult for many players to find, not too mention that while farming you may pick up some level 16-19 blue items that can be quickly sold to pvp twink characters for 50-200 gold. The wool itself is going to bring in about 3 gold per stack of 20 for you.
Another good suggestion is to monitor the auction house some. It’s a pretty complex endeavor but basically you want to buy low and sell high. You can pick up an addon from http://www.curse.com called auctioneer that will make this much easier.
